About Erin

Dr. Erin McDonough founded the practice in 2019 in order to provide the Central New Jersey community with high-quality, evidence-based evaluations for learners of all ages. Dr. McDonough earned her B.A. in psychology from Emory University and began her early career serving individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Following a few years working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in clinical trials, Dr. McDonough earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. McDonough completed an APA-accredited internship at MercyFirst.

During internship and the first few years of her career, she collaborated with District 75 schools within residential treatment facilities, addressing the psychological and academic needs of students. Dr. McDonough has supervised school and clinical psychology graduate students in psychological assessment at both St. John's University and Rutgers University, where she served in Training Coordinator, Acting Clinic Director, and Clinical Assistant Professor roles. She has taught classes in school-based crisis intervention and learning disability assessment. She has also served as Director of a diagnostic center at a school for students with dyslexia.

During her time serving in academic positions, Dr. McDonough co-edited Contemporary Intellectual Assessment, Fourth Edition, which has been the second most-widely used text in school psychology programs in the U.S. She has trained school psychologists and special educators locally and nationally on various topics related to psychological assessments and special education services, including dyslexia identification.

Dr. McDonough received a Certificate in Neuropsychology Specialization Training from the Fielding Graduate Institute, where she focused her research project on the neurobiology of dyslexia. She is also the first evaluator to earn an endorsement from the Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA), and she has presented on dyslexia at the annual LDA conference. Dr. McDonough is trained in Orton-Gillingham methods and specializes in dyslexia identification and recommendations for intervention. Her passion and expertise are in learning disability identification and supporting parents through the special education eligibility process.
